Her husband’s dead. Her job is in shambles, and her family life is rough, to say the least. The only one who seems to need her is her niece. So when Maddie manages to open a portal into her favorite book, Olivia doesn’t hesitate to follow her.

Lost in a literal storybook realm, Olivia must reunite with her niece and protect her from the inquisitor hunting them both down.

Maddie isn’t the only one the inquisitor is trying to bring down, however. The king’s ranger soon finds himself dragged into the crosshairs for daring to follow the spirit of the law instead of its letter. Dangers—from both monsters and humans alike – abound for more than just Olivia and her niece.

It doesn’t take long for new friends to depend on her as much as she does on them, and Olivia must choose who she’s willing to stand – and die – for.
